A National Champion: Janelle’s Story

Meet Janelle, Yeppoon based Air Pistol Shooting Champion living with MS.

Janelle and her husband enjoyed hobbies together over the years but as her body began changing their hobbies had to change too.

She tell us, ”I’m sure everyone has heard this phrase in life, turn lemons into lemonade. There come times in living with MS we have to adapt and overcome and pistol shooting has taught me just that.”

Pistol shooting (rifle also) is an inclusive sport allowing people with disabilities to participate in a non-physically demanding sport. WSPS stands for World Shooting Para Sport. MS doesn’t automatically allow an individual to be eligible for para status however impaired muscle power, hypertonia and ataxia are eligible impairment types.”

Being selected for the state team to represent Queensland in the upcoming National Competition, I don’t think has quite set in yet (and can’t believe it still) but receiving my uniform makes it a little more real now.

Prior to the competition, Janelle said

She went on to win the Australian National Championships and was awarded the Australian Champion and Record Holder in Air Pistol Shooting.

Janelle’s positivity is truly inspiring, and her passion to share her story to help encourage others in the MS community to adapt and overcome, even when times are difficult is incredible.
