Finding Strength in Community: Deb’s Journey

When Deb first came to MS Queensland, she admits that “pride had definitely been my enemy.” She was struggling with fatigue, the loss of function in her hand, and the uncertainty of what lays ahead.

With the support of MS Queensland Physiotherapist Nicki – she began to see things differently.

“Nicki has taught me a lot and worked perfectly with me to understand that fatigue is nothing to be ashamed of. I’m learning to embrace my new normal, and I feel more empowered now that I’ve started to settle into this new life”.

The impact hasn’t just come from one therapist – but from being surrounded by an allied health team who truly understand neurological conditions. With physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and other supports working together, every step of her plan is designed to help her stay as independent as possible while improving her quality of life.

Along the way, the little things have made a big difference – kind phone calls with our Service Support Officer Jenny, coffee catchups with Aimee at our Neuro Wellness Hub, and the warmth of the MS Queensland community.

“You have all made me feel like a welcomed part of the MS Queensland community, and that has made a huge difference to this very proud woman over the past few months – I actually wish I’d started this sooner now”.

Now, with occupational therapy sessions ahead and new mobility wheels on the way, Deb feels ready to take on the next chapter.

“I’m starting to find my feet and I’m mentally and physically ready to take on MS with the same fight and passion that I’ve carried throughout my life. There are no words to express my thanks and gratitude for bringing me back from the mess I was in before I took the terrifying leap into this new ‘adventure’ with the NDIS and disability in general”.

For Deb, this is just the beginning of her “MS adventures” – with the MS Queensland allied health team behind her, and her spirit leading the way.
