Going the Distance: Gold Coast Marathon Fundraisers Smash $10K for MS Queensland
14 July, 2025
The Gold Coast Marathon was more than just a race – it was a powerful opportunity to come together in support of Queenslanders living with MS and neurological conditions. Across the course, three dedicated individuals – Brooke Hingley, Nick Pengly, and Charlie Payten – stepped up to take on the challenge, raising funds and awareness for MS Queensland.
Together, they’ve already raised over $10,000, a fantastic achievement that will help provide vital services and support for people living with neurological conditions and their families.

Brooke, diagnosed with MS less than a year ago, showed remarkable commitment by completing the marathon despite picking up an injury during the race. Her determination was fuelled by a desire to give back to the community and support others navigating the challenges of MS.

For Nick, the decision to run was deeply personal. Inspired by his best mate’s sister, who lives with MS, he wanted to make a difference for her and others living with the condition. Training for a marathon is no small feat, but Nick embraced the challenge knowing every kilometre covered would help raise awareness and vital funds for MS Queensland.

Charlie’s journey to the marathon was also personal. After being diagnosed with MS, she described it as a life change no one can truly prepare for. Moving from the UK to Australia added another layer of challenge – but having the support of MS Queensland gave her the confidence to build a new life and face each step without feeling alone or overwhelmed. What once felt impossible gradually became her new normal. To give back, Charlie ‘roped in’ her friends Grace and Adam to run the marathon alongside her, raising funds to ensure others living with MS and neurological conditions can access the same support she received:
“That’s why we took on this challenge together—to support an incredible cause. Every dollar helps fund vital services, research, and hope for a world without MS.”
To Brooke, Nick, and Charlie: thank you for going the distance – not just on the course, but for every Queenslander living with MS and neurological conditions.
