Ursula’s Story

Two women smiling and standing together in front of a wall with colorful, abstract paintings. One woman is wearing a white blazer, the other a black tank top. Both appear happy in the art gallery setting.

My name is Ursula and I live in beautiful Nundah. I have lived with Multiple Sclerosis for the past 22 years but at this poignant stage in my life I have now decided for Multiple Sclerosis come live with me!

Since recently becoming unemployed I have tried to keep myself busy by doing what I love most. Art. I have always endeavoured to try and manage my MS through various therapies and lifestyle changes and to never let it define my quality of life. I am a qualified makeup artist and the skills I have learnt have transmuted into skills I now use in my painting creations. I have always turned back to art as therapy.

My painting style consists mainly of dots as I find it difficult drawing lines and it helps me to improve my fine motor skills. I’m influenced by the work of Frida Khalo as like her I have adapted my skills and techniques to conquer my disability and allow me to create the art that I love.

I have been given the opportunity by the lovely Candice from York Street Espresso Bar to exhibit my art in her café.

It’s a growing passion of mine to continue on this journey as an artist and to use this therapy as a form of treatment and I welcome you to share with me the journey of achieving that goal.

Three colorful paintings: a mermaid underwater with sea creatures, a surreal landscape with a tree and purple mountains, and an abstract pattern of vibrant, multicolored circles and shapes.
